Client agrees to provide full name and contact detail and to disclose medical information and updates before each session

Client provide consent for therapist to store data securely

Therapist Credentials, Conduct and Confidentiality

1. Professional Conduct

• Provide treatments within my level of training, certification, and competence.

• Maintain a professional, respectful, and non-judgemental attitude toward all clients.

• Refrain from behaviour that could be interpreted as discriminatory, exploitative, or inappropriate.

• Always uphold clear boundaries.

 

2. Client Care & Communication

• Conduct a consultation before each treatment to assess suitability.

• Explain the treatment, expected outcomes, and possible contraindications.

• Client consent for all sessions.

• Client free to ask questions and express their needs or concerns.

• Respect a client's right to pause or stop a session at any time.

 

3. Confidentiality & Data Protection

• Keep all client records accurate, secure, and confidential.

• Only collect information relevant to treatment.

• Comply with GDPR and data protection legislation.

• Do not share client information without explicit written consent unless legally required.

 

4. Hygiene & Safety Standards

• Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic treatment environment.

• Wash hands before and after every treatment.

• Clean and sanitise equipment, linens, and surfaces between clients.

• Ensure appropriate ventilation in the therapy space.

• Follow all local health and safety regulations.

 

5. Professional Boundaries

• Use draping techniques to protect client privacy and comfort.

• Never engage in sexual or inappropriate behaviour.

• Avoid dual relationships that may impair professional judgement.

• Refrain from treating clients under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

 

6. Contraindications & Safe Practice

• Assess for contraindications before every treatment.

• Do not treat clients where massage is unsafe.

• Refer clients to a healthcare professional when necessary.

• Stop a treatment immediately if the client experiences pain, discomfort, or distress.

 

7. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

• Commit to ongoing education and skills development.

• Stay updated with best practices, industry standards, and new techniques.

• Maintain valid professional memberships and insurance.

 

8. Insurance & Legal Compliance

• Hold up-to-date public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

• Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements for massage therapy practice.

• Keep licences and certifications current.

 

9. Payment, Cancellations & Business Ethics

• Provide clear information about pricing, cancellation policies, and payment methods.

• Handle payments honestly and transparently.

• Do not pressure clients to book unnecessary treatments.

 

10. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

• Treat all clients regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, or background.

• Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate clients with specific needs.

 

11. Professional Relationships

• Maintain respectful communication with colleagues and other healthcare providers.

• Refer clients appropriately when their needs fall outside your scope of practice.

 

12. Review & Updates

• Review this Code of Practice annually.

• Update policies in line with industry developments and legal changes.
